Please do not assume that the terminal bolts supplied with your battery are a one size fits all solution, they are not !
The bolts we supply fit in well with a lug that one would expect to use on a battery pack with a 200A + continuous discharge rating, so lug thickness is up around 3mm
If you are fitting thin lugs / small cables because you want capacity and not necessarily the discharge rate (fused accordingly of course) , then you may need to replace these bolts, or add a washer (DO NOT ADD WASHERS BETWEEN CONDUCTORS)
Failure to check if your lugs are nice and tight to the terminal posts can result in the damage shown in the pictures, this customer assumed because the bolt was tight, that it was good to go, which is not the case.
Simply put, poor connections cause a lot of heat, even under small loads, and this kind of thing will burn your van to the ground!
Lucky for this customer he purchased a battery pack that was assembled in NZ, so we were able to strip it and repair it, instead of potentially sending it to recycling.
As we head into the warmer months, its a good idea to start checking over your system and making sure everything is working as you would expect, try not to leave it until the last minute when shops are winding down, we will also be taking some time out this summer !
